If everyone has a goal it is as a child that turns fifteen to get to sixteen so that they can go to the Department of Motor Vehicles to apply and take their learner's permit test. Once the six months have passed and they have driven on the road with a licensed adult they can apply to take the road test to get their license. In some states you can apply earlier. Then what do you do with your license once you have it? Have you really given any thought past the first year of what the advantages are of having a license to drive a vehicle? Probably not so let's look at a few of them. You do need to be aware of the auto insurance that is required for you to be able to drive. This is one issue to take care of so you can do some of the things that we will talk about in the next paragraph.

Once you have your license, you are able to drive yourself back and forth to work. You will be able to go to the store, the bank, run any errand for yourself, for your parents or friends depending on how nice you are with your gas and time. You could volunteer time and deliver meals to the elderly that are unable to get out of their homes, pick up medications and drop them off to senior citizens that are unable to drive. You might be able to sign up to be a big brother or big sister and spend time with another person, usually a child who does not normally have the chance to spend time with someone possibly due to a single parent household or a deployed military family member. Deliver food to the homeless shelters, drop off clothes a donation center, or drive for a local religious group. You could even take a job delivering newspapers for a morning paper route.

Sometimes when people get their license they take advantage of it and run free without a thought of ever giving back to their community. A license is a privilege until it becomes a way of getting you back and forth to work. Then we tend to look at it differently and feel it is a necessity. Still, it is something that should not be abused or taken advantage of and at times could be used to provide volunteer or community service. The jobs and services of what you could do is endless. Anything that would require an automobile is something that you could consider. This is really a huge responsibility too. Imagine the number of people on the road with you at any given time. The responsibility of being a safe driver depends and rests on your shoulders. Of course, you do have to watch out for the other driver too and have the ability to react quickly if needed. Be a safe driver.

Sometimes when we have to react to avoid an accident it causes a chain reaction on the road. The goal is to minimize any impact to other drivers. This is where it is a benefit for any driver to take and remember what was learned during each driving lesson you took. There are defensive driver courses available too. If you ever feel that you are afraid to drive then get the help you need before you keep getting back behind the wheel.
