Do You Need to Buy A Full Iowa Auto Insurance Policy if You're Not a Commuter?

Every day across the country hundreds of Americans are kicking back and working from home using the power of the Internet and the privileges that come with working for a company that allows you to telecommute. These drivers spend a bare minimum of time behind the wheel of their car. The question is, if you're not spending hours a day out on the highways do you really need to carry full Iowa auto insurance?

Iowa requires a minimum $20,000 in bodily injury liability coverage per person, $40,000 per accident and $15,000 in property damage liability, as well as uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.

Now, when I say "full" I'm not just talking about meeting Iowa's auto insurance liability minimums. It doesn't matter where you live (or work), keeping local law enforcement happy is non-negotiable! I'm talking about all the "extra" insurance that most commuters are careful to keep on their vehicles-for example, additional liability to make sure they're covered if they happen to be in a ten car pile-up out on the highway and comprehensive and collision coverage to replace their car as quickly as possible after an accident.

Believe it or not, even though you're at a higher risk for having an accident if you happen to be an Iowa commuter you're not off the hook just because you rarely go more than ten to twenty miles from home. Even a trip to the grocery store can be fraught with peril-a study done by Progressive auto insurance's research team in 2001 showed that 69% of accidents happened within ten miles of the drivers' homes. Recent research continues to support these findings. That means that even if you spend your days sitting in front of your computer and only going to the store to restock the refrigerator you're still at risk for an accident.

Since the last thing you want is to be left with what can literally amount to

Iowa Auto Insurance
hundreds of thousands of dollars in auto repair expenses for your vehicles and anyone else's involved, it makes sense to carry full coverage on your car even if there's almost no chance you're ever going to need to use it. And think about that vacation you want to take next summer, or the trip to your parents' house for Christmas. Do you really want to have to cross your fingers and hope nothing's going to happen while you're traveling, or do you want to rest assured that your Iowa auto insurance company is going to keep you covered no matter where you happen to be?

When it comes to your Iowa auto insurance coverage, you can never be too careful.
