Driving with Concentration or Full Views

Are we there yet?

In the car, as you have made it through the first hundred miles to parent's house and you only have another hundred to go. You figure you are at the half way mark and so far the three children in back ranging from one to five have not been that difficult to travel with so far. When they changed the car seat laws and you now have to keep them in a car or jump seat until they are eight years or a hundred pounds, it sure is making the back seat a little tighter for the three little riders.

Auto insurance reminded me of the same thing when we bought a new van to fit the car seats for all the children and the auto insurance increased. It was understandable but may it tight on our budget. It meant something else had to go. We had to review other things we were doing through the week to see where we could cut back on the expenses. We both now take a thermos of coffee instead of buying a cup each morning. This is a time to check the internet for free auto insurance rates to see if maybe changing your insurance company could have provided you the extra money in savings on the rates that you were trying to save to pay your extra premium.

Just as I was thinking of that cup of coffee, a scream came from the back snapping me back to reality. The baby was hungry; the middle child kept taking her pacifier, and the third child kept hitting the middle child who started to cry too. This all lasted about ten minutes before I realized I was turning my head much too often in the van. If I kept taking my eyes off the road then we were bound to cause an accident and that was not a good idea. So, I did what every other good parent does, I gently raised my voice and told them we would be stopping to fix everyone's problem at the next rest area and to stop touching each other.

The next rest area was only five miles away and I knew I could get there quickly and I did and pulled over to stop. As we all got out of the van, hit the restrooms, I made a bottle for the baby, had bagels and juice for the other two children and opened my thermos and poured myself a cup of coffee. Ten minutes later everyone was back in their seat and we were back on the road, quiet and content for the rest of the ride. Sometimes you have to realize when you need to get your concentration back you need to make a stop and regroup. When you are driving you must focus on the road, lack of concentration is another reason for highway accidents and are also another way to increase your auto insurance rates.

Sometimes you will see teenagers or younger drivers on their headsets talking on the telephone, you may pass a car and see a driver looking down and changing the radio station. If a car were to change lanes quickly they would not have time to react and would most likely be in a car accident. How many stop lights have you come upon and looked over at the next car to see someone fixing their hair or applying their makeup. How can you be focused on driving or on the road if you are worried about how you look in the mirror?

There was a time that I recall seeing a station wagon filled with balloons to where the driver could not see anything but what was in front of them. They could not even see to the side of them on the passenger side of the front seat. If there had been a car going through a red light they would have never seen them coming or had a chance to stop. I am sure you will or have seen similar things when people are moving or are going on vacation. Their car is packed to the roof that they cannot see out their back window. When this happens they have no way of getting out of the way if a car cannot stop because they will not see them coming.

If you do this try to break the habit for your own safety. If you are easily distracted in your car while you are driving then work on taking away the distractions. Leave all your window areas clear so you can have full of the road and your surroundings. You never know when you will have to make a quick decision to avoid something. You will need to know what options are available to you.
