There are some people that are born negotiators. No, I'm not talking about the ones the FBI spent millions of taxpayer dollars to pay and employ. I'm talking about the ones that walked into a used car lot when they were 16, walked out with a sweet deal on a Mustang convertible and have been befuddling salesmen ever since. That's the kind of person you want working for you when the time comes to play, "Let's Make a Deal" with your Colorado auto insurance rates.
Now, for the average person there's not a whole lot of negotiating going on when they're buying an auto insurance policy from their Colorado insurance dealer. They tell the auto insurance agents what they need, the agents tell them how much it's going to cost them and they each go their separate ways. Nine times out of ten, you're never going to talk to that auto insurance agent again.

How do they DO that?

It makes you want to be them when you grow up.
You may never be able to develop that killer drive that makes it so easy for some drivers to negotiate down their Colorado auto insurance rates, but that doesn't mean you can't go out there and give them a run for their money. See, those negotiators know a secret that most people don't-there are literally hundreds of potential auto insurance discounts out there just waiting to be taken advantage of. Most people don't have the first clue what they are.
As a matter of fact, many auto insurance agents don't have the first clue what they all are! They read through their script on their computer and never bother to think outside the box. It's not their fault, and it opens a huge window of opportunity for you to haggle down the cost of your insurance.
The first thing you need to know is that auto insurance companies are all about risk. Any Colorado auto insurance agent you talk to is going to be vetting you to see how big a risk you might be out on the highway, so make sure you tell them up front how many accidents/tickets/etc. you've had (or haven't had) over the years. A good driving record puts you on the fast track to car auto insurance rates.
Next, check and see what safety features are standard and/or could be added to your car. Anti-lock brakes, shatter proof glass, even ordinary seatbelts can help you save money on auto insurance. If you were to consider adding a GPS locator system or fuel switch you'd watch your rates go down even more. Make a list before you talk to your agent so you can make sure you don't leave anything out.
Finally, give them the details on your life-whether they want them or not. Things like age, job, location and the distance to and from work can have a huge impact on your Colorado auto insurance rates. Short commutes and experienced drivers, especially ones with nice, safe cars, make auto insurance companies very, very happy-and they'll be happy to return the favor with the lowest rates on the market.
