Skip Shopping for Auto Insurance Quotes Online. How are the Coppers Going to Catch You?
All right, so before you say it, I'm very aware of the fact that the term “coppers” in relation to local law enforcement went out the window with the Sherlock Holmes era. In this case, however, nothing else would fit. Why? Because hunting down drivers who decided to skip shopping for auto insurance quotes online is a foot chase worthy of the great detective. It's tricky. It's complicated. You have to be in exactly the right place at exactly the right time.
Don't confuse difficult with impossible, however. There's a pretty big difference between the two (over 150 pages, according to Webster), and law enforcement is known for being diligent. You have a better chance of finding auto insurance quotes online you can afford than you do of driving insurance-free and not getting caught forever.
How They'll Get You
|
1) They cause an accident. Fender bender, head-on or complete and total annihilation. It doesn't matter. If you've been in an accident, unless you were lucky enough to hit an unclaimed rock out in the wilderness, the owner of the property you damaged is going to want your insurance to cut them a check-and they're not going to be happy if they find out it's not going to happen.
2) They get pulled over for another traffic offense and can't come up with a valid insurance card. Usually the officer in question wants your license and registration, but if they happen to ask for proof of insurance and you can't cough it up you're as good as toast.
3) The DMV finds out. The DMV has a vested interest in keeping drivers insured before they'll renew your registration. When DMV officials find out you're driving without auto insurance you may not have to appear in court, but you're definitely going to get handed some nasty fines you really don't want to deal with.
Why It Matters
Aside from the obvious fact that hunting for auto insurance quotes online and actually buying a policy will save you the Herculean task of coming up with tens of thousands of dollars on the spot after you've been in an accident, getting caught driving without insurance can be a serious offense (depending on which state you happen to be driving in). Some states allow you to cruise around uninsured as long as you pay an uninsured motorist's fee and assume all responsibility. Others will dole out fines, suspend your license, impound your vehicle and generally make your life miserable.
Keeping a low profile with the coppers running around is a lot easier than explaining why you couldn't take an hour of your day to go shopping for auto insurance quotes online. Do it today and save yourself the trouble of having to try!
