Watch Out Texas! Your Auto Insurance Quotes May Be Going Up!

Just when you thought the immediate danger to your auto insurance quotes was past, Texas auto insurance provider Allstate reports that weather related auto accidents are on the rise-and so is the amount of money the company is paying out in insurance claims.

You can see where we're going with this.

Allstate, the second largest insurer in Texas, reported in an article posted by

ABC News that they saw a "50% increase in storm-related car insurance claims in Texas during 2009". The company saw the greatest percentage of change in El Paso, Lubbock and Houston, many as a result of hail, wind and flood. Allstate reported a $2.45 billion in catastrophe loss in 2009, 23% of the national total.

What does that change mean for Texas drivers? Even if you didn't have to pay out for damages last year you may still find yourself facing a hike in your auto insurance quotes. Why? Because companies don't stay in business by paying out more than they take in each year, and you can guarantee Allstate isn't the only one to notice the difference.

So what can you do to keep that hike in auto insurance quotes from killing your checkbook each month? Use these easy premium-lowering techniques to keep your insurance premiums down where they belong:

1) Volunteer to take a driver improvement course. Contact your local courthouse for a listing of upcoming classes and sign on the dotted line-or, take a class online! Programs such as 6 Hour Defensive Driving and I Drive Safely.com have been helping drivers keep the cost of their auto insurance low for years!

2) Pick up an insurance-friendly vehicle. !5 year old clunkers are cheap to insure for a reason. Auto insurance quotes take replacement cost into consideration when they're handing out numbers, which means the cheaper it is to replace, the cheaper it is to insure!

3) Keep your driving record clean. The best way to save money on your insurance is to qualify for a 5 year Good Driver Discount. The less likely you are to be in an accident, the less you're going to pay for your coverage.

4) Auto insurance quotes differ from company to company, so take the time to hunt around! Even if you're a high risk driver feeling the sting of statewide insurance increases as well as your own cost increases, there are still companies out there that can help.

Texas may be feeling the sting of bad weather, but that doesn't mean you have to say goodbye to cheap auto insurance quotes. If you do your homework you can smile while those raindrops keep fallin'!
