Step 1: Start Looking Around
The first thing you need to realize is that there's no such thing as Pennsylvania auto insurance anymore. Okay, so maybe there is, but it's very rarely exclusive. When you start hunting around you're probably going to find that 75-90% of the companies doing business inside Pennsylvania borders are actually nationwide insurance providers.
This is good news! Since they operate on a grand scale they've learned how to cut costs, and since they're fighting neck and neck to gain a foothold in Pennsylvania auto insurance providers are going to be fighting to see who can give you the best deal on your insurance coverage.
In case you couldn't guess, that rocks!
Step 2: Line Up Your Quotes
When you wrote down the quotes you just gathered you did remember to write down how much coverage they're going to give you for your dollar, right? If you forgot it's okay, but it does mean you need to get back on the phone or go out on the web and get those numbers. The information you want to gather from the Pennsylvania auto insurance companies you talk to should include:
a) Your maximum liability limits. Every state has a state minimum you need to meet for your insurance coverage, but guess what? The minimum Pennsylvania auto insurance limits usually aren't enough to keep you taken care of If you're in a really bad accident. Most experts recommend that you buy at least $100,000 in bodily damage per person and $300,000 per accident.
Trust us, whatever you have to pay each month for a little extra coverage will be small potatoes compared to the bill you'll be holding if you come out of an accident uninsured.
b) The maximum limits on your comprehensive and collision coverage. You're going to want them. There are very few people who walk around saying darn, I wasted all that money on a comprehensive policy but plenty who were in an accident with only liability to back them up that are kicking themselves for not getting a little bit more.
c) Your uninsured motorist coverage. Do you have it? If you do, how much can you get with your insurance quote? No-fault is not the way to describe your Pennsylvania auto insurance policy, which means you want to make sure you're covered if one of the many drivers who have decided to give up auto insurance in exchange for being able to keep a roof over their heads happens to plow into you.
d) Any extras you can pick up. Some auto insurance providers will throw in emergency roadside service or car rental insurance as part of the package. It's always good to find these things out beforehand. Sometimes those extras are enough to tip the scale when you've got a few auto insurance quotes going neck and neck to the finish line.
Step 3: Make Your Decision
We don't really have to spell this one out for you, do we? Once you've got all the information you need in hand you're ready to make a decision about your insurance coverage. Now all you have to do is find the company that's going to give you the best deal at the best price and you can walk away with the satisfaction of knowing you came out ahead in the never-ending insurance game.
