What Your Father Never Told You About Buying Automobile Insurance for Your RV
|
Over 8 million Americans hit the highways in an RV every year.

If you thought driving around town was dangerous, wait until you take an RV out into the elements. With crazy highway drivers, low hanging branches and gas pumps that seem to pop up out of nowhere, cruising the highways in an RV can bring almost as much destruction as signing up to be on bottom in a Monster Truck rally. That's why you need a good automobile insurance policy specifically designed for RVs to make sure your bank account isn't the one taking the damage!
Most automobile insurance companies will offer coverage for RVs, making it easy for most owners to just tack their motor home onto their policy with their other cars and call it a day. That's fine if you're parking your RV in your backyard (maybe) but if you're going to be heading down life's highway you're going to want something more solid backing you up than an insurance policy that's designed for a vehicle with nearly 1/3 of its worth. Here are some things in mind when you're shopping for auto insurance quotes for your RV:

2) Ask if the company will insure your appliances and the contents of your RV. The average automobile insurance policy won't; a specially-designed RV policy might. Many drivers make the mistake of assuming that their personal belongings are protected by their homeowners insurance policy when they're on the road, only to find out after the fact that they had limited coverage (complete will full deductible) when they were away from their residence.
3) Make sure your insurance policy covers all the parts of your RV, including

Of course, just because you're shopping for automobile insurance for your RV rather than your car doesn't mean you should forget the standard mantra of finding cheap auto insurance. Don't forget to shop around, make sure you emphasize your RV's safety features, and don't forget to ask for discounts. Keep your driving habits on the straight and narrow, and avoid the boys in blue. Hey, your insurance company doesn't ask for much. Help them save money and they'll be happy to help you do it too!
