How High Do I Really Want My Georgia Car Insurance Deductibles to Go?

When you're talking about spending money on your Georgia car insurance policy you're not usually talking about spending more money. If you wanted to spend money you'd be downtown doing your Christmas shopping. (You did remember Christmas was right around the corner, right?) Keeping that in mind, you're not really looking to spend a small fortune on your car insurance rates-but you don't want to trade out by sending your deductibles flying sky high either!

Your deductibles go down, your car insurance rates go up. Your deductibles go up, your car insurance rates go down. The catch is, no matter where you live in Georgia you're going to find yourself struggling sooner or later to keep up with the pile of expenses rolling your way-one way or the other. Keeping that in mind, it's time to break out the industrial sized scale of justice and find the cosmic balance between too much and too little.

Taco Bell's still working on it. You could be in for a fight.

Sarcasm and cynicism aside, however (I went in for a bean burrito the other night and was bitterly disappointed) it can be tough to juggle your deductibles and your Georgia car insurance rates to make

For those of you who've never spent six hours or more sitting around twiddling your thumbs on I-95, traffic comes to a grinding halt in the middle of a rainstorm-and being stuck on a dark and stormy night doesn't bear thinking about.

sure you can afford them both. We're sitting here in the middle of an economic crunch (which is nothing like a Nestle Crunch, let me tell you).

Less than 10% of Georgia's drivers are cruising around with no car insurance whatsoever, which is encouraging. On the other hand, Murphy's Law dictates that it'll be that 10% you run into on I-95 on a dark, stormy night. Go figure. The last thing you want is to become part of that 10%. It never ends well.

Keeping that in mind, it's important that you keep both your rates and your deductibles somewhere in the realm of reality. Your deductible is going to range anywhere from $0-1,500, depending on what your insurer has to say about your coverage and what you yourself are willing to lay down to make repairs happen. (Yes, ladies and gentlemen, there really is such a thing as a zero dollar deductible. You just have to have friends in low places with plenty of Georgia car insurance connections-or a really good Yellow Pages. Whichever.)

The first question most people ask is how much they should be willing to pay for their deductible. Listen up. It doesn't matter where you live, who you are or how much money you make each year, the answer to that question is always the same. Whatever you can afford to come up with on short notice. Remember, unlike your premium payments, which tend to come at fairly regular intervals, you're not going to have any notice when the time comes to pay the piper and ante up with your deductible. If the thought of having to come up with $1,000 (or even $500) at a moment's notice makes you cringe, learn to tolerate the higher premiums and keep your lower deductibles.

I also recommend you start a small fund somewhere with the express purpose

of being able to pay your Georgia car insurance company should an accident occur. If you stash away five or ten dollars every payday you should have enough money accumulated to handle your deductibles in no time-with a little left over to get a head start on that Christmas shopping after all!

Of course, you may be shopping for next Christmas by that point, but hey-it's the thought that counts.
