Which is Harder: Shopping for a Car or Shopping for Car Insurance Quotes Online?

I've had people ask me in the past which is harder, shopping for a car or shopping for car insurance quotes online. I have a confession to make. I really, really hate car shopping.

Don't get me wrong, I'm as excited as the next guy about the prospect of slipping behind the wheel of something new. There's something basic and thrilling about the purr of a new engine underneath the hood. The problem is, by the time I actually get behind the wheel my head's pounding from the amount of searching, haggling and arguing I had to do to get there that I can't really enjoy myself.

I can quite honestly say, from the bottom of my heart, that unless you're very, very lucky (or you've decided to toss aside modern conveniences and go back to the days of the horse and buggy) you're going to spend considerably more time banging your head against the hot metal hood of a car shopping for your new set of wheels than you ever will shopping for insurance out on the web.

Oh sure, there are some similarities. It's impossible to deny the fact that you're going to feel as, how do you say, “put on the spot” when you're haggling with an insurance agent over your insurance quote as you will haggling with a car dealership. Until you get to the part where you want to look around a little more, that is. I have yet to meet an insurance agent who can hold a candle to a pushy car dealer when it comes to making you feel guilty for keeping your options open.

I'm not saying all car dealers are that way. I actually enjoyed working with the young lady who sold me my last car. I'm just saying there are enough pushy dealers out there to give car dealerships a bad name and make me very, very grateful for the anonymity of being able to shop for car insurance quotes online!

Of course, anonymity isn't the only thing I enjoy about shopping for car insurance quotes online. There's also the fact that you can have a pile of quotes in your hands in 2-3 hours. There's the way you can fill out one form at sites like this one and contact multiple companies rather than having to spend an hour wandering around their facilities. And there's the part where the answers to all your questions are right at your fingertips from professionals out on the web instead of having to hope that the sales staff you work with actually know what they're talking about!

Asking which is harder, shopping for a new car or shopping for car insurance quotes online is kind of like asking which is better, chocolate peanut butter ice cream or Brussels sprouts dipped in soy sauce. There's no comparison.
