When shopping for car insurance quotes comparison-shopping is crucial in order to receive the lowest possible price.  The good thing is that in this era of instant information shopping for insurance quotes is much easier and quicker than it was a few years ago.  Most sites will now allow you to fill out one form and then compare their quote with a quote from three different companies side by side.  There are also websites that will allow you to compare quotes of hundreds of companies all at the same time.

Here are some things that you will need to know in order to get the best quote possible.  First, gather all pertinent information.  If you currently have insurance, have that policy on hand.  Other insurance companies will want to compare their quote to your current coverage and it will have a lot of the other information you will need all in one place. You will want to have the VIN number of your vehicle this way it will allow the provider to find out what features and safety devices your car has installed.  You will need birth dates and driving records of all the people that will be listed as drivers of the car.  Now take this information and fill out an on-line quote form for the coverage that you desire, make sure that the coverage at least meets the minimum requirements of your state.  Make sure that the quotes from each company are for identical coverage or the quote will not be of much use to you.  Also, be aware that now days your credit history may also be taken into account by the provider when giving you a quote.

Be conscious of the fact that price is not the only consideration when buying car insurance.  A new company will always give lower rates to draw in new customers; you will have to decide if that is all right for you or if you want a long-standing well-known company.  Many companies will add benefits to their policies in order to entice you to buy, like roadside assistance, free towing, and other things, you may want to consider this also.  Some companies are more forgiving of driving history, with some company’s one accident or moving violation will raise your premiums with other companies you can have two or three violations and not see that much difference in the cost of the insurance.  You will have to take each providers policy on driving records into consideration, depending on your current driving history and where and how you drive.
