What Will Happen to Your Home Without a Kansas Homeowners Insurance Policy?
Sure, we all grumble and complain about paying our bills each month. That's

A single storm can do hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage in a matter of moments. Are you prepared to pay that price?

The question isn't necessarily why you need a Kansas homeowners insurance policy. You're an adult. You've probably heard the adage that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure a few thousand times over the course of your lifetime. A better question for many to ask would be what will happen if they decide to keep on keepin' on without purchasing a homeowners insurance policy for their home.
It's easy enough for us to dismiss the need to spend money on things like homeowners insurance when it's just an abstract promise to prepare us for "someday"-kind of like that retirement account. We may even justify it by promising ourselves we'll buy a policy farther down the road, when we're more settled and have a little more expendable income each month. Somewhere in the back of our minds is the assurance that nothing's going to happen to our home in the first year or two, so buying homeowners insurance is really just a waste of income.
I wonder what Dorothy would say about that?
Yes, chances are if you live in Kansas there isn't a Wizard of Oz joke you haven't' heard yet, but her story isn't all that unusual. Oh sure, most of us don't usually wake up after a tornado to find out we've been transported to a city filled with munchkins and a benevolent wizard. There have been many, many Kansas homeowners, however, who have peeked out of their storm cellar after a windstorm to find that the damages to their house were more severe than they could have anticipated. (Just remember, if you see feet poking out of your basement try to resist the urge to steal their shoes-it can only end in evil apple trees and flying monkeys.)
Since Mother Nature hasn't caught on to the need to use a Google Calendar to track her storms yet it's going to be up to you to make sure your home is ready, whether that storm comes a day, a week or a decade after you move in. Remember, if you're not covered by a homeowners insurance policy you're going to be responsible for paying the replacement costs for your house and your belongings out of pocket. Do you often have $500,000 lying around just waiting for a windy day?
And if you do, isn't there something better you could be doing with that money than spending it to rebuild a house you could have protected for less than $200 a month?
What happens if you can't afford to rebuild your house? If you don't have a Kansas homeowners insurance policy and your home is flattened you're going to find yourself stuck between a rock and a hard place. On one hand, it's your home. It's your land. It may even be the land that's been lived on, cared for and/or farmed by your family for generations. On the other, it's incredibly hard to live for any extended period of time without any protection from the elements. If you can't rebuild your home you're going to find yourself having to sell and relocate, saying good-bye to a vital part of your history in the meantime.
The bottom line is that, flying monkeys or no, you never know what's going to happen. Kansas homeowners insurance isn't just an insurance policy to protect you from the "what-ifs". It's there to protect your future.
